The characteristic feature of the French roof is the square lozenge effect of the slates. This design requires the roof to be laid using nails. There is, however, a variant of the “French” slate, which has a horizontal lower edge. This allows the roof to be laid with hooks. Starting from the lowest point (the eaves), with slates of a different dimension from the others, each one is laid so that it covers the slate underneath by a half. In this way, the finished roof is slated with a double overlay. |
