The distinguishing feature of the French roof is the effect obtained by the slates laid in a “lozenge” formation. Sometimes, the tile is modified to a hexagonal shape, but the final design of the roof remains the same. The roof is laid using the double method and zinc nails may be used. As with the other types of roofs, work begins from the bottom i.e. the eaves with slates of different dimensions from the others. These are laid in such a way that each slate covers one half of the slate below, so that the finished roof has a double overlay. |
