Traditionally, this method has always been used for curved surfaces, such as church domes and bell towers. Recently however, it has also been used also for flat plane roofs.
In these cases, hooks can be used. The scaled roof is appropriate to enhance the proportions of the roofs of large villas or condominiums of rustic or characteristic design. The procedure for making the scaled slates is rather complex as the lower half of each slate must be individually trimmed to form a semi- circle. |
